The wholesale prices of China's agricultural products dropped Monday, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

By 2 p.m. Monday, the China agricultural product wholesale price index stood at 115.95, down 0.79 points from Saturday, which was set as a working day due to the Labor Day holiday.

The average wholesale price of pork, a staple meat in China, dropped 2 percent to 41.45 yuan (about 5.85 U.S. dollars) per kg, while eggs dropped 1.5 percent to 6.73 yuan per kg.

The average wholesale price of 28 types of vegetables, monitored by the government, remained unchanged Monday, while six different types of fruits saw average price down by 1 percent.

The wholesale price index is compiled from data collected from around 200 agricultural wholesale markets, and is updated daily based on the weighted average of price indices for goods including vegetables, fruit, aquatic products, livestock products, cereals and edible vegetable oil.
